Our Wearable Waste Fashion Show.

On Tuesday we brought things from home that we didn’t need anymore to school for our fashion show that was to happen on Thursday.

We brought old cardboard boxes, plastics, magazines, feathers, coke bottles, string and so much more. I felt exuberant about creating a dress out of recycled materials.

First, I drew the design of my dress. I started collecting the materials that I needed. I used foil with grey and green stripes and zigzags. I glued together the foil to make my top and then my skirt. I thought my project was easy but it was actually hard. It took me a few hours to finish it.

I was happy with my creation. But Samantha found a bag full of white  popcorn foam and then I had an idea of sticking some on to my dress. It looked amazing!

On Thursday, it was the day of the fashion show. I felt nervous, scared and excited at the same time. Mr Bell told us we only had five minutes to change into our costumes and dresses. That was the time that I got really really really really really nervous! Some people had partners to walk with during the fashion parade. My partner was Francheska. We both looked like beautiful princesses in our dresses.

I had so much fun creating my wearable art using recycled materials like foil and white popcorn foam and walking on the runway. I wish we could do it again sometime soon or maybe next year.

Littering destroys our environment

Where does litter come from? Litter comes from people who throw it away without thinking and then it gets into the sewers, and finally our precious oceans.

Why is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch bad for our world? The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is bad because sea animals can die from eating the plastic we throw away or they can also get strangled! The rubbish covers a huge area of the sea so that we cannot see the beautiful dolphins jumping out of the ocean to say hello to us. The garbage floating there is about 1.6 million square kilometres and it is the same size as Texas.

If people don’t stop littering, very soon sea creatures will all be dead. To stop this from happening, we should start practising the four R’s – recycle, reuse, reduce, refuse. We should help clean up our oceans by picking up plastic rubbish. At home we should recycle plastic containers and use them again and again. Instead of using single use water bottles we can use metal drinking bottles. I wish to see clean oceans that are safe for all sea creatures. We should put more effort into educating each other about the negative effect of littering.

Our Sailing Day

Last Thursday, Room 6 and Room 7 walked down to Panmure Basin for sailing. Room 7 went first. While Room 6 waited, we did some activities. It was really fun!

At first, I was nervous  because I didn’t want to jump into the water. When Room 7 finished sailing, it was our turn to sail. I was scared because I wasn’t confident in the water.

Scot was my partner to help me sail the boat. We had to wear a life jacket so that if we fall off we don’t drown. I felt horrified when we went on the boat because it nearly tipped over. The waves were rocking the boat back and forth.

I was holding the rope for the sail to follow the direction of the wind and to make the boat go faster or slower. Scot was holding the rudder to make the boat go straight, right or left. We were told to follow the speed boats. Then the sailing teacher threw some rubber duckies and we had to try and catch them before the other boats caught them.

The boom hit my hat off my head and I got startled. In my mind I said, “OH MY GOSH!” Then I started laughing. It was hilarious!  When the waves started to get bigger, the boat started to go wobbly. I screamed and Scot called me a Scaredy Cat. I was mad at him!

I really had a fun day at sailing. I wish we could do it again soon.
